A gourmet chicken joint is expanding to Midvale, a soul-food chain is coming to Draper, and gourmet cinnamon rolls — for those who are done with the Utah “cookie wars” — are landing in Farmington.
Here are some notable openings, relocations and closings in the Utah food scene this week, taken from The Salt Lake Tribune’s Utah Eats newsletter.
Openings/Relocations:
Pretty Bird’s Midvale location officially opens this week, for those who were on the edge of their seats about that (lots of you, right?). It’s located at 7169 Bingham Junction Blvd., suite 103.
Nona Ina Italian Restaurant recently opened at 567 S. Valley View Dr., St. George. The restaurant is operated by a family from Sicily, using recipes passed down through generations.
Celebrity’s Soul Food Bistro (487 E. 12300 South, Draper) is opening Thursday, Sept. 8. It’s the first Utah spot for this franchise, and the first bistro-style location. Opening day includes music, food samples and door prizes.
WannaCinn gourmet cinnamon rolls will be opening a new location at Station Park Mall (140 N. Union Ave., Farmington). The first location in Utah is in Mountain View Village, 4578 W. Partridge Hill Lane, Riverton.
Mrs. Hewitt’s, a Utah-based gluten-free food company, is opening Crushed Soda, a new soda shop and bakery (1661 W. 7000 South, West Jordan). The grand opening is Monday, Sept. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m., and includes food and drink samples. The entire menu is gluten-free, with some vegan items, and there will be a store inside the cafe where you can buy gluten-free Mrs. Hewitt’s bread, cake and cookie mixes.
Vegan bakery Sweet Hazel & Co. has moved from 167 W. 4500 South, Murray, to new digs at 282 W. 7200 South, Midvale.
Raising Cane’s fried chicken is opening its first location in Layton, at 694 W. Antelope Drive, this fall.
Closings:
As Gastronomic SLC reported, Fenice Mediterranean Bistro in downtown Salt Lake City has closed, due to ongoing staffing issues. The restaurant has also been in a holding pattern for several months with its bar license application. The owners will continue to operate SIlver Star Cafe in Park City.
