Veterans Day is coming up fast — Thursday, Nov. 11 — and you might be wondering where you can pay tribute to the armed forces members in your community.

Happening on Veterans Day (Nov. 11)
Centerville
Centerville Veterans Day Program
The public is invited to Freedom Hills Park (2150 N. 150 E., Centerville) at 9 a.m. for a short program, a time of reflection and a service project for troops. Sunday dress is requested.
Draper
Veterans Day Ceremony and Field of Flags
The program begins at 11 a.m. at Draper City Park (12500 S. 1300 E., Draper), and will include a posting of the colors, a musical performance by the Rise Up Children’s Choir and a keynote address by Brigadier General Darwin L. Craig, who serves as the director, joint staff, of the Utah National Guard in Draper.
Additionally, a Field of Flags will be set up in Draper City Park from Nov. 10 through Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. The community is invited to walk through this display of 1,000 flags during normal park hours (8 a.m.-10 p.m.).
Riverton
Riverton City’s Veterans Day Program
Riverton is hosting a free Veterans Day event at 7 p.m. at the Sandra N. Lloyd Community Center (12830 S. Redwood Road, Riverton). The program will include a performance by the Riverton Jazz Band and singer Valaura Arnold, a speech from veteran Brian McCoy and a flag ceremony presented by the American Legion Post 140.
Salt Lake City
U of U 24th Annual Commemoration Ceremony
At 11 a.m. in the University of Utah’s Union Ballroom, 11 Utah veterans and the Student Veteran of the Year will be honored in a full military dress ceremony that will include a bagpipe procession, a medallion presentation and a cannon salute. This free event is open to the public.
Lux Choral Society “Let Freedom Ring” Veterans Day Concert
The First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City presents their Veterans Day concert “Let Freedom Ring,” featuring the Lux Singers and guest artists Mat and Savanna Shaw. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City (12 C Street East, Salt Lake City). Tickets range from $7 to $50 and can be bought at bit.ly/2Yz54DW.
Washington City
Washington City Veterans Day Celebration 2021
The public is invited to a parade down Telegraph Street at 10 a.m. A short program will follow immediately after. All veterans who would like to participate in the parade should arrive between 9 and 9:30 a.m at the parking lot in front of the old Nisson grocery store located on the corner of Main Street and Telegraph Street.
West Jordan
West Jordan Veterans Day Program
The public is invited to Veterans Memorial Park (1985 W. 7800 S., West Jordan) at 11 a.m. for a program that will include performances from the Utah Pipe Band, remarks from Congressman Burgess Owens and a keynote address from Col. Joseph W. Green. Meet at the memorial on the north side of the park. The event is free, but guests are asked to register at bit.ly/3mXnzeG.
West Valley City
The Utah Veterans Memorial grand opening
West Valley City is unveiling a new veterans memorial at 9 a.m. at 1355 W. 3100 S (located next to the south parking lot of the Utah Cultural Celebration Center). The project cost over $1 million, which was collected through donations and fundraisers. It includes a 75-foot wide, eight-foot high memorial wall with the names of 2,894 veterans; three acres of plaza; and 29 benches throughout the grounds representing Utah’s 29 counties.
West Valley City Veterans Day Program
Join West Valley City at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center (1355 W. 3100 S., West Valley City) for a free program that will include a flag ceremony, a fallen comrade ceremony, a patriotic performance and a speaker. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. to the first 200 people, and the program will begin at 6 p.m.
Other Veterans Day events through Nov. 13
Layton, Nov. 13
Layton City’s Veterans Parade and Veterans Honors Ceremony
The free parade starts at 11:11 a.m. and will proceed along Wasatch Drive, through Layton Commons Park’s north side near Constitution Circle and will end on the park’s south side near Hawthorne Drive. Both veterans groups and community organizations will be in the parade.
Immediately after the parade (around 12: 30 p.m.), Layton City and the Vietnam Veterans of America Northern Utah Chapter will conduct a Veterans Honors Ceremony at the Vietnam Memorial Wall Replica site (508 Constitution Circle, Layton).
Orem, Nov. 13
SCERA Center for the Arts “Celebration of Veterans” concert
The SCERA Center for the Arts (745 S. State Street, Orem) presents “Celebration of Veterans” at 10 a.m. This free concert (no tickets or reservations required) will feature patriotic music and presentations such as a Parade of Service Flags by American Legion Post 72 and a display of military vehicles on the front lawn. The Orem Heritage Museum (777 State Street, Orem) will also be open for free tours after the event.
Provo, Nov. 7-13
The Utah County Commission has set aside these days to honor military veterans. Throughout the week, the Utah County Historic Courthouse (51 S. University Ave., Provo) will host a variety of veteran-related displays that the public is invited to tour. The courthouse’s regular hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Salt Lake City, Nov. 12
University of Utah “Strike” Up a Conversation with a Vet Bowling Tournament
Compete with student veterans at the University of Utah during the “Strike” Up a Conversation with a Vet Bowling Tournament at the Union Bowling Alley (200 Central Campus Drive, Salt Lake City). The event runs from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Fees are $2.50 a game with a student ID and $3 a game without a student ID, while shoe rentals are $2 a pair. A donation of $2 is requested, with all proceeds going to a scholarship fund for the University of Utah’s student veterans.
