Celebrate Diwali, enjoy light-based artwork and honor veterans

Nov. 8

Celebrate Diwali at the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum

Learn about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, on Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum. The event is free with admission ($12.50 for general admission, free for members and kids under 1) and includes dance performances, music and activities in the Art Studio and STEAM Lab. Masks are recommended.

Nov. 12-13

Immerse yourself in light-based artwork at ILLUMINATE

ILLUMINATE: Utah’s Light Art and Creative Tech Fest is based in the Gateway and features artists who create projection-mapped artwork, light art displays and interactive exhibits. This free event will include live entertainment, a kid’s section and a STEAM Lab that will allow festival-goers to participate in interactive activities built around light and technology. The festival will also include several ticketed attractions, such as the AFTER GLO party (21+ only).

Nov. 13

Honor veterans at the SCERA Center for the Arts

The SCERA Center for the Arts presents “Celebration of Veterans” on Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. This free concert will feature patriotic music and presentations such as a Parade of Service Flags by American Legion Post 72 and a display of military vehicles on the front lawn. The Orem Heritage Museum will also be open for free tours after the event. Groups from senior centers and assisted living centers are welcome to attend.
