Utah State knows all about Braden Pegan.

The Aggies were just used to being on the right side of his big performances.

They weren’t on Saturday.

After transferring to Utah this offseason, the wide receiver reminded Utah State of what it’s missing. Pegan finished with 122 receiving yards and two touchdowns in No. 17 Utah’s 33-0 win over Utah State at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Senior quarterback Devon Dampier helped lead the way from the pocket with 253 passing yards, 34 rushing yards and three total touchdowns.

And it was Pegan and Dampier who connected early and often as Utah jumped out to a big lead in the first half.

The senior quarterback connected with Pegan for a 28-yard touchdown toss, giving Utah a 7-0 lead with 10:37 remaining in the first quarter, capping a nine-play, 75-yard drive.

The very next drive? Utah scored again. Dampier connected on passes of 18 and 19 yards before Byrd Ficklin found pay dirt on a nine-yard quarterback keeper.

The Utes added to their total on their third drive with a 38-yard field goal from Dillon Curtis to give them a 16-0 lead.

Curtis added another field goal before Dampier found Pegan for a 38-yard score with less than a minute to go in the half to give Utah a 26-0 lead at the half.

There was a scary moment in the second quarter when Utah State linebacker Harrison Taggart left the field in an ambulance after a collision with Utah running back Daniel Bray.

The Utes were a bit more sluggish in the second half, including a Dampier fumble. But had some standout plays to keep the shutout intact. None was bigger than safety Rabbit Evans’ one-handed interception in the end zone.

After that, sophomore running back Daniel Bray ended the Utes’ offensive woes, scampering free for a 63-yard run and score to give Utah a 33-0 lead.

Next, the Utes will hit the road for the first time this season with a matchup against Iowa State (2-1) next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. MDT in Ames, Iowa.
