Could Utah Utes star Gianna Kneepkens return for another season?

The junior guard will not participate in Utah’s senior day activities.

Gianna Kneepkens is many things.

She’s Utah’s leading scorer, averaging 19 points per game.

She is one of the most efficient players in the country, shooting 52.3% from the field and 45.9% from 3-point range.

She’s also a “person who wants to stay where her feet are at,” Utah head coach Gavin Petersen said on Friday.

With the Utes' season winding down, Kneepkens' future with Utah remains up in the air.

The junior guard is a prime candidate to enter the WNBA draft this offseason. But it appears Kneepkens might be mulling a return to Salt Lake City for one last season. At the very least, she will not be participating in Utah’s senior day activities versus BYU on Saturday.

The Utes will have to wait until the conclusion of 2024-25 until her decision is announced, according to Petersen.

“She doesn’t want to get too far ahead of herself,” he said. “We’re allowing her to stay present and give her all to this season. We’ve had conversations, just between her and I, and when it’s time to go public, we will. But at this moment, I think she’s just going to enjoy the remainder of this year and then whenever that may be — at the end of our year— we’ll address it."
