Utah freshman cornerback Cameron Calhoun looked like one of the Utes’ loyal returners just a few days ago. But on Tuesday night, he announced his entrance to the NCAA Transfer Portal.
According to a source close to the situation, Calhoun’s decision came after receiving offers from two different programs that Utah was not willing to match financially. Calhoun was offered “nearly double” the amount of money the Utes offered him for the 2025 season, the source told The Salt Lake Tribune.
Since making his decision, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native has publicly announced offers from Maryland and Wisconsin, which are both in the Big Ten. Calhoun has said he was also offered by Louisville, in-state rival BYU, Miami and Houston.
Calhoun made a major impact in Utah’s secondary this season, tallying a team-high nine pass breakups, one interception and 21 tackles.
His decision to depart from the Utes came as a surprise after he seemingly reaffirmed his commitment to the team in a social media post on Nov. 27.
With Calhoun’s announcement, Utah has now had 16 players enter the transfer portal. Among some of the most notable names are freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson, junior tight end Carsen Ryan, sophomore quarterback Brandon Rose and others.
