Utah guard Gabe Madsen joined an elite club Thursday night, becoming just the 42nd player in program history to score 1,000 points in his Runnin’ Utes career.
Madsen, a fifth-year senior, scored an easy layup off an assist from transfer guard Miro Little early in the second half of Utah’s 98-63 win over Central Arkansas. The bucket brought Madsen’s career total to 1,001 points in a Ute uniform.
“I’m super proud of Gabe,” Utah head coach Craig Smith said. “… I love how he plays the game. He plays the right way. All he cares about is winning.”
Madsen was the first player to commit to Smith and his staff when they arrived at Utah. The guard played one season at Cincinnati before transferring to Salt Lake City in 2021.
In his first season as a Ute, the 6-foot-6 guard tallied 167 points. He added 290 and 503 points in the next two seasons respectively. So far this year, Madsen has 52 points for the 2-0 Utes.
It took him 89 games as a Ute to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
“He loves the Runnin’ Utes with every fiber in his body,” Smith said. “Every guy in that locker room would tell you he loves to play with him.”
