One baseball team will still call Salt Lake’s ballpark home next season

The Utes will play their final season Smith’s Ballpark in 2025 — a last hurrah for the stadium set to be replaced by Daybreak Field next year.

The Utes baseball team has found a home for the 2025 season.

On Friday, the University of Utah announced a partnership with Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake Bees to keep the Utes inside of the historic Smith’s Ballpark for one more year. This agreement will allow Utah to play home games in the venue for the 2025 season, including all home Big 12 conference games in downtown Salt Lake City.

“This is an important partnership for our baseball program, to maintain continuity for one more season of play at Smith’s Ballpark before moving into their new on-campus stadium in 2026,” Utah athletic director Mark Harlan said in a statement. “I want to thank Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, the Salt Lake Bees, Miller Sports + Entertainment, and the Larry H. Miller Company for their partnership to make this agreement a reality.”

Smith’s Ballpark has been the Utes primary home ballpark since 1996. That’s all set to change in 2026 when the Utes move into Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark, their new on-campus stadium that saw construction begin this past summer.

“Our program has immense gratitude to all involved in this process,” Utah head coach Gary Henderson said. “Our players have enjoyed the opportunity to play in Smith’s Ballpark for many years. This arrangement will provide continuity not only for our players—but also our fans—before our club begins playing on campus.”

As part of the terms of their agreement, the Salt Lake Bees will maintain and provide game-day operations to facilitate Utah games. The Utes will be able to practice on their new playing surface at America First Ballpark in the Spring of 2025.
