Utah QB Cam Rising knocked out of Baylor game in first half

Utah’s star starting quarterback sustained an appareny hand injury after being shoved out of bounds late in the second quarter.

Utah quarterback Cam Rising exited Utah’s game against Baylor late in the first half after suffering an apparent injury to his right hand on Saturday.

On the play, the seventh-year quarterback scrambled to the right and threw the ball away before being shoved out of bounds by a Baylor defender. Rising then walked to the sideline, gingerly holding his right hand before being escorted to the locker room.

“On Cam, I can’t give you an answer right now on his availability,” Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said postgame. “I’ve just been told that it’s not real serious, ... but I can’t tell you the exact description of what happened. He may be back this next week. We’ll see.”

Rising finished the first half 8-of-14 with 92 passing yards and two touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson, the brother of former BYU and current Denver Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson, replaced Rising with 1:55 remaining in the second quarter.

Rising was later ruled out for the rest of the game. He was seen on the sideline in street clothes with a wrap on his right fingers.

Despite Rising’s injury, the No. 11 Utes (2-0) squeaked out a 23-12 over the Bears (1-1).
