A former Utah basketball player is now joining the staff as a coach

Dasia Young will be an on-floor assistant in 2024.

Utah is bringing back a familiar face to its basketball program.

Dasia Young, who just finished her playing career for the Utes in March, will join the staff as an on-floor assistant. The position will be similar to a graduate assistant role.

Young spent the last three seasons at Utah after transferring in from UT-Martin. Last year, she made 13 starts and averaged nearly eight points a game.

Head coach Lynne Roberts recruited Young late in her transfer portal process. Young originally told UNLV’s coaching staff that she was going to Las Vegas.

But when Roberts got in the mix, Young changed course to Salt Lake. After her first year, she almost left the school again. But Roberts convinced her to stay and Young became a staple on Utah teams that went to three NCAA Tournaments and a Sweet 16.

Young will join a staff that is retooling the Uets after several key departures. Along with Young graduating, Utah lost All-American Alissa Pili and guard Issy Palmer.

Roberts brought in Michigan transfer Chyra Evans and Rhode Island transfer Mayè Tourè. Both players are listed at 6-foot-3 and should help front-court depth.

The program will also get back guard Gianna Kneepkens, who suffered a season-ending foot injury last year.
