Utah coach Lynne Roberts is ‘as motivated as ever’ after getting another contract extension

Utes women’s basketball coach Lynne Roberts earns new contract after three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Utah women’s basketball head coach Lynne Roberts inked a contract extension with the university through 2030, Utes athletic director Mark Harlan announced on Monday.

“I’m thrilled to be able to extend her contract for an additional three seasons,” Harlan said in a statement. “She has continued to produce championship-level results with three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, and energized our fan base and the community. As we transition into the Big 12 Conference she has her program poised to attract the best student-athletes in recruiting and compete for championships and NCAA tournament berths.”

In her ninth season, Roberts led the Utes to 23 wins and their third NCAA Tournament appearance in as many years. Since taking over as Utah’s head coach, she has accrued a 162-115 overall record, and eclipsed a win total of 20 games for the last three seasons.

“When I took this job nine years ago, my vision was to create a nationally relevant program, build an incredible home court advantage with the amazing fans of Salt Lake City, and take us to heights we had not achieved before,” Roberts said. “... While we have achieved so much, the job is not finished. I’m as motivated as ever to continue climbing and cut down more nets.”

In the 2022-23 season, Roberts earned Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors, won 27 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, the program’s deepest tournament run since 2006 and the third Sweet 16 in Utes’ history.
