No. 13 Utes rout Southern Utah

Live updates from the University of Utah’s home opener.

Final: Utah 73, SUU 7

Plenty of young Utah players got playing time as the game wound down.

End of 3: Utah 59, SUU 7

Utes quarterback Cam Rising’s day was done early in the third quarter as the team continued to pile on the points. He ended the game throwing for 254 yards and three touchdowns on 17-of-23 passing.

Halftime: Utah 45-7

Utah pulled it together on both sides of the ball and scored 31 unanswered points. Running back Chris Curry picked up his first rushing touchdown in his Utes career. Brandt Kuithe caught a touchdown pass, and Dalton Kincaid received two from Cam Rising.

Utah allowed only 62 total yards to the Southern Utah.

End of 1: Utah 7, SUU 7

The Utes were a bit sloppy in the first quarter on the offensive end. After completing their first red zone attempt with a 13-yard rushing touchdown by Tavion Thomas, Rising was sacked and Thomas fumbled the ball. The fumble led directly to SUU quarterback Grady Robinson running it 28 yards himself for the tying touchdown.

How to watch the game

The Swamp may have been uninviting.

But after letting the opportunity for a season-opening victory slip away in Florida, the Utes will be back on home turf and back in front of an expected sellout crowd at Rice-Eccles Stadium this morning as they look to get their first win of the season.

Southern Utah comes into Salt Lake City having beaten St. Thomas (Minn.) 44-13 last week.

Kickoff time: 11:30 a.m. MT
