AP Top 25: Utah drops out of the Top 10 after loss to Florida

BYU moved up four spots to No. 21 following its win at South Florida.

The Utah Utes have fallen out of the top 10 in the Associated Press poll after last weekend’s loss to the Florida Gators.

Kyle Whittingham’s Utes fell six spots to No. 13 following their 29-26 defeat in the Swamp. Florida, meanwhile, went from being unranked to debuting at No. 12 with the win.

BYU moved up four spots to No. 21 after cruising to a 50-21 road win over South Florida.

The Cougars will host No. 9 Baylor on Saturday in Provo. It will be the highest ranked opponent to visit Provo since USC came to town in 2004. That day, BYU lost the the No. 1 ranked team in the nation 42-10.

This is the first time BYU has played a top-10 team since since 2018, a win against No. 6 Wisconsin.

Alabama, which beat Utah State 55-0 on Saturday, remains ranked No. 1.

Georgia moved up to No. 2 after thumping Oregon. The Ducks dropped out of the top 25 after the 49-3 defeat. BYU will play at Oregon on Sept. 17. The Utes and Ducks meet on Nov. 19.

USC, one of Utah’s top threats in the battle for the Pac-12, is in the top 10 for the first time since the final regular-season poll of 2017, when the Trojans were eighth. The Trojans visit Salt Lake City on Oct. 15.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish dropped three spots to No. 8 out after losing 21-10 at Ohio State. BYU and Notre Dame face off in Las Vegas on Oct. 8.
