The University of Utah football team has its first commit from the Class of 2021, and it’s a significant recruiting win.
Peter Costelli, a four-star quarterback from Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School, offered a verbal commitment to the Utes on Saturday evening. Costelli had 19 scholarship offers according to 247sports.com, including seven from Pac-12 schools.
Costelli’s commitment comes in the middle of an NCAA-mandated dead period, which is in place through at least May 31. A dead period means there is no in-person, face-to-face contact allowed between coaching staffs and recruits.
The commitment comes on the heels of the Utes putting together their highest-rated recruited class ever in the 2020 cycle.
