Utah football: Which Ute can squat 830 pounds? The U.’s strongest, fastest and springiest

It's hardly news that Utah senior defensive end Jason Fanaika is strong. He's built like a Street Fighter character. But it's news if any college student is THIS strong.

Utah's football program provided The Tribune with numbers from its end-of-summer combine-style workout, and some — like Fanaika's 830-pound squat and 495-pound bench press — are downright mind-boggling.

Many of Utah's top performers would have been among the best at the 2015 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Granted, these workouts were held on home soil — with coaches and teammates shouting words of encouragement instead of NFL scouts casting career-altering judgments. But strength and conditioning coach Doug Elisaia appears to have them on the right track, at least.

Below are the top five results for Utah in six events.

Disclaimer: Some players on the fall camp roster did not participate in summer conditioning. Junior college speedster Cory Butler, for instance, has just joined the Utes for fall camp. Others, like senior running back and Heisman hopeful Devontae Booker, chose not to risk injury in events like the 40-yard dash.
