The Utah State basketball will face conference opponents in about a month, starting with a two game home stand against San Jose State.
The Mountain West Conference announced its basketball schedules Tuesday. It features a new format in which each team plays the same conference opponent back-to-back at the same venue. The change was made to reduce travel in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
That means the Aggies start their 20-game schedule at home against San Jose State on Dec. 21 and end it at home against Nevada on Feb. 27. And there’s plenty of intrigue in between.
A rematch between Utah State and San Diego State doesn’t occur until Jan. 14, and both of those games are at The Spectrum. The Aggies and Aztecs played in the MWC Tournament final last season, a game that featured Sam Merrill making the game- and tournament-winning 3-pointer.
Those two games against the Aztecs are in the middle of a stretch where Utah State will play four consecutive home games. The Aggies play the Aztecs twice and will then face Colorado State on Jan. 20 and 22.
But right after that stretch, the Aggies play four on the road against UNLV and Fresno State.
USU will play in a tournament in South Dakota before its conference schedule starts. The team’s first game is against Wichita State on Nov. 25.
