Sometimes, the pros are just like us.
They, too, are sometimes required to sleep on the floor.
As anyone who has done that knows, sleeping on the floor certainly isn’t the best for your back, and it certainly doesn’t put anyone in the best mood.
Just ask exasperated Utah Mammoth winger Dylan Guenther.
His first thoughts at Mammoth media day on Wednesday weren’t about hockey, but his gripe with Mattress Firm.
Even after scoring 40 goals last season, Guenther is roughing it right now like any other single 20-something dude who just moved into a new apartment.
“I mean, guys come in early, get settled in their new place. I got the Mattress Firm here not bringing my mattress,” Guenther said. “So, it’s been a rough morning for me, sleeping on the floor yesterday, but if they don’t bring it today, I might have to look elsewhere. That’s why you come in early.”
It’s hard to blame him. Sleeping on the floor is an unpleasant experience for anyone (as someone who did just that a few weeks ago).
And remember, Guenther is well-versed in Salt Lake City’s extra-large Costco. Is another Costco in order?
Luckily for Guenther, Mattress Firm doesn’t want to lose his business. It also wanted to defend its name.
The company responded to Guenther’s story on social media, saying it had attempted to make the delivery.
“Please let Dylan know we tried to deliver twice, on Monday and Wednesday, but nobody was home to receive his order,” Mattress Firm posted Thursday morning. “Send us a DM and help us connect so we can set a new delivery around his availability.”
The Mammoth began training camp Thursday.
After a string of preseason road games, the squad will host Colorado on Sept. 26 at the newly renovated Delta Center.
Hopefully, Guenther’s mattress issue will be solved long before then.
