Real Salt Lake equals team-record unbeaten streak with 0-0 draw vs. CF Montreal

RSL has eight wins and six draws in its past 14 games

Real Salt Lake extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games on Saturday without scoring a goal.

“There are going to be games where we create some good chances and we score, and there are going to be games where it just doesn’t go in,” RSL coach Pablo Mastroeni said. “But I think the most important thing for our group, especially on the road, is to continue to be able to control the game.”

Goalkeeper Zac MacMatch made two saves as RSL battled to a 0-0 draw with host CF Montreal.

“I thought tonight he had a good performance,” Mastroeni said of his keeper. “… There were a couple times tonight where he might have been caught out but I think his experience has really led him to making some big saves. That’s what this group needs. Especially when you can’t find the back of the net, we have to make sure we keep it zeroes.”

RSL’s unbeaten streak ties the club record set in 2010. The current streak comprises eight wins and six draws.

Real Salt Lake, sitting in first place in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference, moved to 9-2-7.

RSL had a 19-11 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal, but could not put the ball in the net.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois had six saves for Montreal (4-7-6).

RSL’s Chicho Arango, with 16 goals in 18 games this season, remains one shy of the single-season club record of 17, set in 2012 by Alvaro Saborio.

RSL will return to action Wednesday at Kansas City (6:30 p.m. MDT, Apple TV).
