Red-hot Real Salt Lake got goals from three players and defeated the Seattle Sounders 3-0 in a Leagues Cup game Saturday night in Sandy.
Jefferson Savarino scored in the 48th minute, Chicho Arango scored in the 51st minute, and Rubio Rubin in the 88th minute as Real Salt Lake ran its unbeaten streak in all competitions to 10 games (7-0-3).
Savarino scored on a shot from close range into the bottom right corner. Arango scored from the right side of the box following a fast break, with an assist from Pablo Ruiz. Rubin wrapped up the scoring with a left-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner.
Salt Lake goalkeeper Zac MacMath made one save and earned the shutout, while Seattle’s Stefan Frei made four saves.
The monthlong Leagues Cup tournament features all 29 Major League Soccer clubs and all 18 Liga MX teams. The tournament is sanctioned by CONCACF, and the top three teams will receive automatic bids to the CONCACAF Champions Cup, with a chance to represent the federation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
RSL is scheduled to host Mexican club Monterrey in a group-play game Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
