Utah Jazz sign former first-round pick to a 10-day contract

Guard Jaden Springer appeared in 26 games with Boston this season.

When the NBA’s trade deadline wrapped up earlier this month, the Utah Jazz’s move left the team with an open roster.

The Jazz will use that opening as a tryout of sorts for now.

The team signed former first-round pick Jaden Springer to a 10-day contract on Thursday.

Springer, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Tennessee, has played 93 games for the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics since being drafted in 2021. In 2023, Springer was named the MVP of the G League finals.

This season, he appeared in 26 games with the Celtics, averaging 1.7 points over 5.4 minutes. Boston traded Springer to Houston at the deadline and he was subsequently waived.

The Jazz have successfully used 10-day contracts on a reclamation project recently. In February 2023, the team signed former first-round pick Kris Dunn to a 10-day deal. Dunn used the opportunity to work his way into the team’s rotation before signing with the LA Clippers last summer.
