The Utah Jazz are adding another piece to bolster their front court depth — and getting more shooting along the way.
NBA journeyman Svi Mykhailiuk is signing a four-year deal worth $15 million to come to Utah, according to ESPN. The Jazz will be Mykhailiuk’s eighth team since coming into the league. He played 41 games for the Boston Celtics last year, winning an NBA title.
Mykhailiuk was drafted out of Kansas in the late second round in 2018. Since then, he’s been a career 36 percent three-point shooter and averaged 6.3 points per game.
He was drafted by the Lakers, then bounced around on G League and NBA rosters. He had stints with the Lakers, Pistons, Hornets, Knicks, Raptors, Thunder and Celtics. He spent the most time in Detroit. Across three seasons, he played in 95 games and averaged 20 minutes a night.
Out of college, Mykhailiuk was seen as an elite three-point shooter for his size. At 6-foot-7, he shot over 44 percent from three as a senior. It helped the Jayhawks go to the Final Four that year, where they eventually lost to the Jalen Brunson-led Villanova team.
The last time Mykhailiuk appeared in more than 50 NBA games in a single season was in 2021 with the Raptors. He averaged almost 13 minutes a night and just under five points per game.
In his career, he shoots 40 percent from the floor and carries a 52 percent effective field goal percentage. In 2022, he shot over 42 percent from three with Toronto. But he only played in 32 games.
With the Celtics last year, he averaged four points per game to go along with 1.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists. He played in eight playoff games during Boston’s title run. But it was mostly garbage time with the score out of reach.
