The Utah Jazz beat the Memphis Grizzlies by a lot and are headed to the Western Conference semifinals. Here is what people on social media discussed during Game 5 between the Jazz and Grizzlies.
Old take exposed
Former Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder center Kendrick Perkins predicted that the Grizzlies would upset the Jazz in the first round, regardless if Donovan Mitchell played.
Well, fans quickly found his tweet from the earlier in the series and proceeded to rib him for his take and how poorly it aged.
Mike Conley out
At the start of the second half, Conley was ruled out of the rest of the game due to right hamstring soreness. While the Jazz enjoyed a gargantuan lead and didn’t necessarily need Conley, that didn’t stop fans from worrying about him.
Donovan Mitchell on fire
Mitchell scored 26 points in the first half and sent social media into a frenzy, particularly after making a 3-pointer in the face of Dillon Brooks and then having an exchange with him down the court, and then making a 3 at the buzzer to top it off.
Mitchell was the personification of a fire emoji, as were fans watching him sizzle.
Jazz put up 47 in the first quarter
The Jazz can certainly score. But it’s a whole other thing when they put up a franchise playoff record for points in a quarter, and that’s exactly what Utah did.
The feat left fans on social media stunned and had some remembering the days the Jazz struggled to score that many points in an entire game.
Mike Conley’s buzzer-beater
The Jazz went nuts in the fourth quarter from a scoring standpoint, putting up 47 en route to a 20-point advantage while making nine 3-pointers. Conley put the icing on the cake by swishing a shot, later ruled a 2-pointer, at the buzzer.
Live by the 3s
The Jazz are good at 3-pointers. Enough said.
Predictions before the game starts
The Jazz did well for themselves by winning Game 4 and creating a comfortable cushion for the rest of the series. But the games still need to be played, and the Grizzlies have Ja Morant, who can potentially win a game by himself.
But some on social media were already calling the series over before Game 5 had even started.
