Two highly recruited high school football players were named All-Americans and will compete in the All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Jan. 8.
Devin Brown of Corner Canyon High and Lander Barton of Brighton High received the honor, per a news release from the Canyons School District. Brown verbally committed to play at Ohio State, while Barton committed to the University of Utah. Both players were four-star recruits.
Brown played just one season for the Chargers after transferring for his senior year, but ended up the state record holder for passing yards in a single season with 4,875. He was also named the MaxPreps Football Player of the Year for Utah.
“That whole Corner Canyon program is something super special,” Brown said during a virtual appearance on “The Road to the Dome Tour,” during which players unveiled their jerseys for the bowl game.
Barton will appear on the show next week.
Barton amassed 122 tackles, eight sacks, two interceptions and two touchdowns in his senior year at Brighton. He also played receiver on offense, hauling in 37 catches for eight touchdowns.
Previous All-Americans from Canyons District include Corner Canyon’s Van Fillinger (2019-20), and Brighton’s Ricky Heimuli (2009-10), Osa Masina (2014-15) and Simi Fehoko (2015-16).
