The Bear River High School softball team won the 4A state championship Saturday after winning two consecutive games in the best-of-three series against Tooele. It was Bear River’s third 4A title in the last five years, excluding 2020′s pandemic season.
The Bears pummeled the Buffaloes 14-6 in the winner-take-all afternoon game. Bear River built a 10-0 lead and almost forced the mercy rule before Tooele scored just before the sixth inning ended.
Tooele on Friday won the first game 5-0. The Buffaloes scored two in the second inning and added three more in the sixth to seal the game.
But Bear River forced a deciding Game 3 after winning 4-2 on Saturday morning.
