One of BYU’s top playmakers announces his plans for 2025

Chase Roberts, BYU’s top receiver, is coming back for his senior season.

BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick hinted he might have some good news about the return of his star player.

But he wanted to build the suspense before the official announcement.

“I’m going to let our players do their own thing on [announcing],” he said with a smile. “But we’ve had some good players that we really like that told us they are staying.”

A few days later, the shoe dropped.

BYU star receiver Chase Roberts is coming back for his senior season, he announced Saturday on social media. The Cougars’ most productive skill position player will anchor a program trying to break through to a Big 12 title game in 2025.

Roberts had 843 yards and four touchdowns this year. In his 51 catches, he keyed two of BYU’s comeback wins, against Oklahoma State and Utah.

The American Fork native said he wanted to declare for the NFL draft earlier in the year, but then decided against it.

BYU should have a packed receiving room next year. Roberts will come back along with Keelan Marion, Cody Hagen, Parker Kingston and Tei Nacua. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff also returns for his second season starting.
