BYU head coach Kevin Young adds another top recruit before his coaching debut

The Cougars got a commitment from a four-star center out of Las Vegas.

BYU head coach Kevin Young’s recruiting run is going all the way up until tipoff.

The night before his coaching debut with the Cougars, Young added his sixth high school recruit rated four stars or higher.

Xavion Staton, a four-star center out of Las Vegas, committed to BYU over Michigan, UNLV and Stanford.

Staton will join Chamberlain Burgess, a four-star from Lone Peak, in the 2025 recruiting class.

Staton is ranked the third-best center in the country, and the 29th overall prospect in his class, according to 247Sports composite rankings. The No. 2 center in the class, Malachi Moreno, went to former BYU coach Mark Pope at Kentucky.

Since Young arrived, he’s recruited BYU’s lone five-star guard Egor Demin. Fellow potential NBA draft pick Kanon Catchings, a four-star, also came to Provo.

Young still has a major spot open in the 2025 class for No. 1 recruit AJ Dybantsa. Dybantsa will announce his decision in February and just took his visit with Young last month.
