Provo • The spotlight is back on Kalani Sitake’s program after almost two years in the dark.
No. 14 BYU is hosting Arizona and welcoming the Big Noon Kickoff crew to town. Former Utah head coach Urban Meyer will be on site, along with Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn and Mark Ingram III.
BYU hasn’t been inside the top 15 since Sept. 9, 2022. And the last time it was there, it fell flat on its face at Oregon — losing 41-20.
This time, Sitake wants to capitalize on the energy around his program.
With a win, BYU has a chance to take a significant leap in the Big 12 title race. After Arizona, BYU plays two reeling teams in Oklahoma State and UCF. A pathway to Arlington begins to look much more realistic if the Cougars can start 6-0.
But the Wildcats won’t go down easy. Quarterback Noah Fifita and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan might be the two best players in the conference.
The cards are back in Sitake’s favor for the first time in two years. Now, it’s up to him how he plays them on Saturday.

Steve Young talks Jake Retzlaff
Three-time Super Bowl champion, and BYU alum, Steve Young gave his thoughts on the current quarterback Jake Retzlaff. Young called him a “swashbuckler” and says Retzlaff reminds him of himself.
“It means he’s not tied up very well,” Young said on Big Noon Kickoff. “He can make a lot of goofball mistakes. That’s what happened last year.
“I give him a tremendous amount of credit going to school this offseason. I heard that he spent an inordinate amount of hours in the film room. ... Everyone was nervous, is this the Jake Retzlaff from last year? Where it’s just balls flying all over the place and chaos. He still has little moments where you are like, ‘Oh no!’ But in the end, he’s got better.”
Cougars boo Urban Meyer
The former Ute coach made the trek down south — and the BYU faithful let him hear about it.
But BYU head coach Kalani Sitake made sure to pay his respects.
