Fort Worth, Texas • Kedon Slovis’ first pass of the game was intercepted and returned 35 yards for a touchdown, and the Cougars never recovered from there in a 44-11 blowout loss to TCU.
The Cougars are now 4-2 on the year.
BYU was outgained by more than 300 yards and passed midfield just once in the first half. Meanwhile, TCU backup quarterback Josh Hoover sliced through the Cougar defense for four touchdowns in his first college start.
“Today they look a lot like what I saw [TCU do] last year on film,” head coach Kalani Sitake said. “Everything was making a lot of sense for them. Efficient on third-down. Using the run to keep us on our heels. Utilizing their speed and big physical o-line.”
BYU didn’t get a score until it was down 24 points. A Keelan Marion three-yard rushing touchdown late in the second quarter only momentarily stopped the bleeding. TCU would score 14 unanswered after that, all but putting the game away.
Slovis finished 15-of-34 for 152 yards and two turnovers. Hoover ended 37-of-58 passing for 439 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
TCU went 12-for-19 on third downs and completed passes to 13 different receivers.
