Puka Nacua started the second month of his NFL career with a new role on the Rams — both in terms of scheme and notoriety.
After four weeks of being the under-the-radar, main weapon in the offense, Nacua moved to being the second option behind All-Pro receiver Cooper Kupp. He also wouldn’t surprise any defense after he started his career with 501 yards and 39 receptions in four games.
Turns out, the changes wouldn’t matter much for the former BYU wide receiver.
Facing the Philadelphia Eagles, Nacua recorded an early touchdown on a 22-yard pass from Matthew Stafford. He would finish with seven catches for 71 yards in a 23-14 loss for the Rams.
Nacua stayed on his historic pace, now with over 45 receptions in his first five games in the league.
His early production caught the attention of Los Angeles Laker LeBron James. He called Nacua “Puka Doncic,” in a play on the name of Dallas Mavericks’ guard Luka Doncic.
“Puka Doncic, who[has] been going crazy,” James said of Nacua. “... Obviously we [saw] last week with the game-winning reception he had.”
