BYU might play its best football at night, but an afternoon game against the TCU Horned Frogs should be an easy one to get up for.
The Cougars will kick off against TCU at 2:30 p.m. CT (1:30 p.m. MT) on Oct. 14 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a loss to West Virginia at home. TCU will play Iowa State this weekend before welcoming BYU (4-1) off its bye.
BYU has won 19 of its last 20 night games. In afternoon kicks, its record is more spotty. Its lone loss this year, at Kansas, came in the afternoon. The Cougars also lost to Liberty and Oregon a year ago in afternoon games.
Coach Kalani Sitake said the afternoon struggles are coincidental. But during a slump last year, the Cougars moved around their practice schedule and started lifting weights earlier in the morning to try remedy the afternoon issues.
“The majority of our practices were in the day this year,” Sitake said earlier this season. “I don’t really know if the past [struggles in the day] matters to the guys that are here. I think we will be just fine. ... Who cares? It is going to be football and it is going to get here quickly compared to waiting until the evening. We love playing football no matter the time of day.”
