On the topic of BYU-Notre Dame tickets, the update may not be what BYU fans had hoped for.
Tickets for the game will be on sale for BYU season-ticket holders and boosters this week, starting on Tuesday. But there may be no tickets available for the university to sell to the general public, a BYU spokesperson said.
This topic has been broached before in this newsletter. Back in June, BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe admitted this game would act as a Notre Dame home game. It is part of the Irish’s Shamrock Series, something BYU had to agree to in order to play the game, according to Holmoe.
But along with that came BYU giving up rights to ticket distribution and ticket pricing.
“The ticket pricing is pretty aggressive,” deputy athletic director Brian Santiago said on BYUtv. “The tickets in the lower sections are going to be $400 to $500. Tickets in the club section will be about the same. We are putting a limit on how many tickets each person can buy so we can get as many people as possible [there].”
Holmoe’s calculation has been it is better for the program to play the game than take a buyout from Notre Dame. This game was supposed to be the return game for a home-and-home series BYU started with Notre Dame in 2013.
But it was always likely Notre Dame would not play in Provo. The option for BYU was to play in Las Vegas or not play the game at all.
“A lot of people think these games are simple to make happen,” Santiago said. “Tom [Holmoe] has done a lot to make sure the relationship with Notre Dame was such so that they wanted to play the game and were willing to play the game. It is a huge benefit for BYU to [play].”
BYU has declined to say the exact number of tickets available. Santiago has indicated BYU will have a handful of sections in Allegiant Stadium it can control.
