As BYU keeps winning, its rankings keep rising.
Following Friday’s comeback win at Houston, the Cougars (5-0) got a two-spot bump up the Associated Press Poll, released Sunday, and moved into the No. 12 spot.
Seven programs that have yet to start their fall season continued to be ranked: Ohio State (No. 5), Penn State (No. 8), Oregon (No. 13), Wisconsin (T-No. 14), Michigan (No. 18), Minnesota (No. 21) and USC (No. 24).
Utah received 36 votes.
BYU currently ranks in the top 10 of 10 different FBS statistical categories: second in team pass efficiency, sixth in scoring offense, sixth in total offense, seventh in yards per pass completion, seventh in rushing defense, eighth in scoring defense, ninth in passing offense, ninth in total defense, 10th in fewest sacks allowed and 10th in possession time.
The Cougars have five more scheduled games left on the 2020 schedule, including four home games and one road game. BYU next hosts Texas State on Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium, where approximately 6,000 spectators will be in attendance.
Those who originally purchased tickets for the home season opener versus Troy will have their tickets honored for Saturday’s game. Tickets will be distributed electronically on Thursday.
