The Utah Royals got off to a fast start and went on to beat the host North Carolina Courage 4-1 in an NWSL game Saturday in Cary, N.C.

The four goals marked a season high for Utah, which struck first in the sixth minute when defender Kate Del Fava headed in a goal off a corner kick from Nuria Rabano.

Utah’s Tatumn Milazzo scored in the 34th minute to make it 2-0, knocking in a short shot off a pass from Rabano shortly after a corner kick.

“We worked a ton on set pieces this last week,” Milazzo said in a television interview after the game.

North Carolina’s Evelyn Ijeh scored in the 55th minute to make it 2-1, but Utah restored its two-goal lead 10 minutes later on Mina Tanaka’s long header.

Cloe Lacasse capped the scoring in second-half stoppage time, drawing a foul in the box and then nailing the penalty shot.

With its second straight win, Utah (9-3-4) climbed into third place in the NWSL. The Courage (6-4-5) slipped into ninth place.

Utah returns home to face the second-place Washington Sprit on Wednesday (7 p.m., KMYU) at America First Field.
