Real Salt Lake trades striker Anderson Julio

RSL is prioritizing depth ahead of a return to the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Real Salt Lake has traded striker Anderson Julio to FC Dallas.

In exchange for the Ecuadorian, RSL will receive defender Sam Junqua and up to $500,000 in General Allocation Money.

Junqua is a left-sided centerback who played 65 games across all competitions last season. He was the eighth overall pick out of Cal in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.

“Adding depth and versatility across the back line – especially as it comes from a veteran of our league over the last six seasons – is necessary,” RSL Chief Soccer Officer Kurt Schmid said in a news release Monday. “As we prepare for multiple competitions and a gauntlet of games in the early-season schedule, we expect that Sam will bolster our stability in the setup.”

Julio had been with Salt Lake since the start of the 2021 season. He appeared in 111 matches and scored 25 goals in that time.

Real Salt Lake begins its preseason on Jan. 11 with an appearance in the CONCACAF Champions Cup scheduled for Feb. 19.
