Utah ski season 2024-25: What’s new with parking, lifts and lodges

Snowbird brings back the red tram; Deer Valley to open some of its expanded terrain; Powder Mountain adds paid parking, private lifts.

Alta Ski Area

Projected opening date: Open (Nov. 22)

Acres/vertical drop: 2,614/ 2,538 feet

Lifts: 7 (1 double, 3 high-speed quads, 1 high-speed six, 2 surface lifts)

Day-of weekend ticket price: $199

Walk-up tickets available: Yes

Parking: Reservations required Friday-Sunday and holidays ($25) and for early mornings Monday-Thursday ($15) from Dec. 13 to April 6. Free parking for Alta passholders and $10 parking for online ticket purchasers.

Lessons: Group and private available for ages 4+, reservations required

Child care: Daily, ages 2-12

Passes: Ikon (7 days combined with Snowbird); Ikon Base+ (5 days combined with Snowbird); Mountain Collective (2 days); Yeti (1 day)

Notable: Added two Sunkid covered conveyor lifts, Big Griz and Little Griz, to replace the ski school conveyor near the Albion base; added a ski patrol building at the top of Sugarloaf; made terrain changes to the top of Mambo and on the Ballroom and High Traverse. Also, UDOT has installed Wyssen towers in Little Cottonwood Canyon to replace the Howitzer cannons that had been housed at Alta. Supreme lift will remain in operation but will be replaced or realligned in a future season because it suffers from “accelerated metal fatigue.” Skiing only.

Beaver Mountain

Notable: New circular dropoff area in front. Expects construction of the new Marge’s Cabin — a 25,000-square-foot facility that will include a new rental shop, snowsports school, skier services, retail space and cafe — to be ready for the 2025-26 season.

Brian Head Resort

Notable: Adding three new ski trails for a total of 74; replaced over 2,400 feet of snowmaking line; added new ramps at the base and top of the Giant Steps Express, Navajo Express, Wildflower and Alpen Glow lifts.

Brighton Resort

Notable: Adding lights to the terrain under Milly Express; added snowmaking to Snake Creek; updated terrain park; remodeled women’s bathroom in the Alpine Rose; restriped the parking lot.

Cherry Peak

Deer Valley Resort

Notable: The first new lifts in the East Village terrain will open in December, conditions permitting. That includes three new lifts — one of which connects skiers to the traditional terrain — and at least 300 acres of newly skiable terrain with 20 new runs. Eventually, the resort plans to open up an extra 3,700 acres of skiable terrain. Skiing only.

Eagle Point

Entire resort can be rented out on weekdays via its As You Wish program for a base price of $15,000 for up to 200 people.

Park City Mountain

Parking: Paid reservations ($28; $46 for garage) required daily at Mountain Village from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. from Dec. 5-April 1; 4+ carpool free. Free daily parking at The Canyons in the Cabriolet lot, at all resort lots after 1 p.m. and at Park City High on weekends and holidays.

Lessons: Yes, for ages 5+.

Child care: No.

Multi-resort passes: Epic (daily); Yeti (1 day)

Notable: Updated snowmaking on Chicane and Another World on the Canyons Village side; expanded Tombstone Express; launched My Epic Gear as a valet ski/snowboard rental program; passes and lift tickets available on the MyEpic app.

Notable: Two previously public lifts, Village and Mary’s, as well as the new Raintree lift will be privatized; added Lightning Ridge lift; upgraded Paradise and Timberline lifts; added terrain parks to the Sundown (Confidence trail) and Hidden Lake base areas; added art installations near the Timberline and Lightning Ridge lifts; offering backcountry tours to Don’t Mention It and Wolf Creek. Notable: Upgrade the two-person, fixed-grip Wilbere lift to a high-speed quad and adjusted its alignment so it is accessible from the Creekside base area; refurbished the original red tram car, which will be used as an extension of the Tram Club; Fast Tracks pass/ticket add-on allows access to express lanes on six lifts (tram is excluded).
