The 14-12 victory over Australia gave the U.S. the bronze medal.

Utahn Alex “Spiff” Sedrick has sprinted her way into U.S. rugby lore.

The Herriman High graduate gave the United States its first Olympic rugby sevens medal Tuesday.

With time expiring, the 26-year-old Sedrick broke through a defender’s arms and ran the length of the field for the game-winning score and conversion.

“I was really sweaty, so I think their hands just slipped off me,” Sedrick told The Athletic.

The 14-12 victory over Australia gave the U.S. the bronze medal.

“One minute for the rest of her life, that’s a life changing moment for all of us and for rugby in America,” teammate Kristi Kirshe told NBC News. “And thank God, (Sedrick) took off the way she did.”
