Salt Lake City announces road closures for upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roll Racing series

The 5-kilometer race starts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and the Half Marathon at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Salt Lake City is expecting road impacts with the upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roll 5-kilometer, Half Marathon and kids races downtown on Friday and Saturday.

The 5k race starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and is projected to last at least an hour, whereas the Half Marathon starts at 7 a.m. Saturday, and will likely last four hours. The Salt Lake City Police Department estimates some of the street closures could be in place for “a few hours” at each event.

(Rock 'n' Roll Running Series) A number of Salt Lake City streets will be closed Saturday for Rock 'n' Roll Running's half marathon.

Half Marathon starts at 325 S. 200 East near the Salt Lake City library and ends at 477 S. 200 East near Washington Square Park. Runners will also wrap around Memory Grove Park, 11th Avenue Park, the University of Utah and the Central City-Liberty Wells neighborhood.

The 5K run uses the same start and finish line, with racers racing along 200 East, 800 South and part of 500 East.

(Rock 'n' Roll Running Series) On Friday evening, some downtown Salt Lake City streets will be closed for a 5K race. Police are cautioning residents to be prepared for closures and detours.

“Please use extreme caution when traveling through the area as there will be a significant increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic,” the Salt Lake City Police Department wrote in an announcement.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series is the world’s largest running series according to its website, and brings live bands and entertainment to its courses.

AccuWeather projects a high of 95 degrees on Friday and 88 degrees on Saturday.
