(Utah Tech) Utah Tech lineman Brian Oney died in his family's St. George home on Sunday, July 2, the university announced. The cause of death was not given.

“Though Brian was never able to pad up with our team, he was an excellent teammate,” head coach Paul Peterson said in a statement. “He excelled in the classroom and he was a pleasure to be around. Our hearts are broken and we extend our sincere condolences to the entire Oney family. Brian will be missed and he will forever be a part of our Trailblazer family.”

Oney retired from football last year. The exercise science major, however, planned to become an intern in the athletic department, the school said.
