Patrick Fishburn barely missed birdie putts on the last two holes as he challenged the leaders, but his tie for fourth place in the Pinnacle Bank Championship still produced a nice reward in Omaha, Neb.
Fishburn, a graduate of Fremont High School and BYU, played his way into the three-event Korn Ferry Tour Finals by moving into the top 75 of the standings for the expanded 2020-21 season. He shot 68-72-64-68 to go from No. 81 to No. 71, parring his last 11 holes Sunday and advancing with one stroke to spare.
The top 25 players were awarded PGA Tour membership for the 2021-22 season that starts in September. Fishburn will be among 125 golfers competing for another 25 cards in the three-tournament series that begins Thursday in Boise, Idaho. He’s also assured of Korn Ferry Tour full access for 2022; if he had remained outside the top 75, he would have had to play in the qualifying tournament this fall.
The tie for fourth place matched Fishburn’s best result of his 38-tournament rookie season that began in January 2020 and was altered due to the pandemic. He had gained Korn Ferry Tour status by winning the last event of the 2019 Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada schedule.
England’s David Skinns won Sunday’s tournament to earn a PGA Tour card as a top-25 finisher in the season points race.
The 39-year-old Skinner closed with a 4-under 67 to finish at 14-under 270 at The Club at Indian Creek. He jumped from 46th to 22nd in the season standings. He won the 2018 tournament for his only other Korn Ferry Tour title.
Jared Wolfe (65) and Zecheng Dou (67) tied for second.
