State colleges: Weber State tops Utah Valley 70-62 in men’s basketball

Utah State gets by Air Force 61-55 in women’s basketball.

Seikou Sishoho Jawara scored 14 points to lead Weber State past in-state rival Utah Valley 70-62 on Saturday in a nonconference game at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.

Fardaws Aimaq had 18 points and 20 rebounds and Jamison Overton scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Wolverines, who fell to 2-5 overall on the season. The Wildcats improved to 4-3.

The teams played through 12 lead changes and 10 ties during the first half, with neither team leading by more than three points. Aimaq had a double-double at the half with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  

Women’s basketball

Utah State 61, Air Force 55 • In Logan, sophomore guard Faith Brantley hit a corner 3-pointer following a timeout to put the Aggies (4-4, 2-1 MW) up, 58-55 with 33 seconds left. Utah State then came up with a defensive stop on the other end and hit three free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory.

Junior forward Bre Mathews led all Aggies in scoring and rebounding in her second career start, going for 15 points and a career-high nine rebounds.

Air Force fell to 2-5, 0-2.
