Eli Tomac captured his first 450SX championship on Sunday as the AMA Supercross series wrapped up a three-week run at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Tomac, of Cortez, Colo., rode his Kawasaki to a fifth-place finish as Husqvarna rider Zach Osborne notched his first 450 race victory. Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson finished second and third, respectively, to complete a Husqvarna sweep of the podium.
Tomac won seven races this season and finished the series 25 points ahead of KTM rider Cooper Webb, the 2019 champion, who won four races.
Salt Lake City hosted the final seven rounds of the series after it took a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the 250SX class, Honda’s Chase Sexton won Sunday’s East/West Shootout and wrapped up the East championship, and Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis captured the West title, finishing fourth in the race.
Yamaha’s Shane McElrath finished second in the race, and Husqvarna rider Michael Mosiman was third.
Utahn Garrett Marchbanks sat out the shootout due to injury but still finished fourth in the East standings aboard a Kawasaki.
