The star quarterback for the Corner Canyon High football team has received yet another accolade.
Senior Cole Hagen on Friday was named the Gatorade Football Player of the Year in the state of Utah. He became the first football player from Corner Canyon to win the award.
Hagen said the award holds added significance because his father won it when he was his age.
“That makes it pretty cool,” Hagen said.
Hagen, who has received interest from Ivy League schools to play football, led the Chargers to a 6A championship this past season behind 3,655 passing yards and 43 touchdowns. He also rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Hagen said winning the title in his senior year was “awesome,” and credited his teammates and coaches for putting him in position to receive the Gatorade award.
“The Gatorade Player of the Year award doesn’t happen unless I am surrounded by great coaches and teammates,” Hagen said. “Our team as a whole made it possible for me to win this award.”
In addition to his work on the field, Hagen has also excelled in academia. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his high school years. Academics is another consideration for the Gatorade award.
“I feel really lucky to be part of such a great school and community,” Hagen said. “I’m happy that I can represent my team and school.”
