State colleges: Utah women’s basketball team routs UTSA in Hawaii, 91-45

Honolulu, Hawaii • The University of Utah women’s basketball team put together a well-balanced game against the UTSA Roadrunners Sunday, winning 91-45.

Utah (3-3) shot 56% from the floor while holding UTSA to 27% from the floor and 26% from behind the 3-point line. Utah forced 19 turnovers and scored 35 points off them, while also outrebounding the Roadrunners 45-30.

Brynna Maxwell scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 6 for 10 from beyond the arc. Niyah Becker added 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Men’s basketball

East Tennessee State 70, Southern Utah 58 • In Johnson City, Tenn., Lucas N’Guessan had 18 points as the Bucs (5-1) defeated the Thunderbirds in the Maui on the Mainland tournament.

Dwayne Morgan had 20 points for Southern Utah (3-3). Harrison Butler added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jakolby Long had 10 points.

Volleyball

No. 16 Utah 3, Cal 1 • Kenzie Koerber matched her career high with 19 kills and Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres had 48 assists and 10 digs as the Utes (20-9, 12-6 Pac-12) defeated the Golden Bears 25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 25-20. Dani Drews added 16 kills, 12 digs and five blocks for the Utes.
