Joe Ingles says he doesn’t want place in All-Star Skills Challenge, Donovan Mitchell gets another endorsement deal

Joe Ingles was never going to be an All-Star, but he was the recipient of a national campaign created by Yahoo! Sports that tried to raise interest in him being named to the NBA’s Skills Challenge on Saturday night, one of the events that takes place before the 3-point and dunk contests. They even went so far as to create a Change.org petition for Ingles' entry.

But Ingles wanted to nip that thought in the bud at shootaround on Wednesday morning.

“You know exactly what my thoughts are on that. You know what my answer’s gonna be — I’m going on vacation! I’m going to spend time with my kids and my wife and that’s it," Ingles said. "I don’t know who started it, I don’t know why they started it.”

Like Donovan Mitchell, who recently told the NBA he didn’t want to be a part of this year’s dunk contest after winning it last season, Ingles understands that the break will give him time to rest at a critical part of the season.

"Even to have a couple days between games a few days ago, it does a world of difference,” Ingles said. “Whatever it is, five, six, seven days, if you use it the right way it can be really beneficial to kick the last portion of the season off.”

Mitchell gets another endorsement deal

Mitchell gained another endorsement contract in his cap this week when he agreed to a deal with the BodyArmor line of sports drinks.

BodyArmor, partially owned by Kobe Bryant, is a relatively new entry into the market, founded in 2011.

“Growing up, I loved watching Kobe play. When I noticed he was building this brand and leading a new, younger generation of top pro-athletes, I knew that I wanted to be part of it,” Mitchell said in a prepared statement.

Bryant also was quoted in the release, saying “Donovan Mitchell is one of the most electrifying, young players in the game today."

Neto, Sefolosha out another week

Guard Raul Neto — who has missed seven games due to a groin strain — and forward Thabo Sefolosha — who has missed nine games with a hamstring strain — will both miss at least the next week with their respective injuries, the Jazz announced. Both will be re-evaluated Tuesday, as will guard Dante Exum, who has missed nine games himself due to an ankle sprain.
