BYU golfers Rhett Rasmussen and Peter Kuest will participate in playoff at U.S. Amateur, with 24 men competing for one spot in match play

BYU golfers Rhett Rasmussen and Peter Kuest are headed for a playoff in the U.S. Amateur in Pebble Beach, Calif.

Rasmussen shot a 74 at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Tuesday to finish two rounds of stroke play at 4-over-par 147, tying for 64th place. Kuest shot a 73. The 24 players who tied for 64th place will vie for one spot in the tournament’s match play portion.

Three other golfers with Utah ties failed to reach match play: Preston Summerhays (151), Spencer Dunaway (155) and Kyler Dunkle (158).

The round of 64 in match play is scheduled to be televised Wednesday at 3 p.m. MDT on FS1.

Daniel Hillier of New Zealand, and Cole Hammer of Houston tied for medalist honors at 6-under 137.
