Salt Lake City’s Kelsey Chugg struggles in opening round of U.S. Women’s Open

(Scott Sommerdorf | The Salt Lake Tribune) Kelsey Chugg tees off on 18 during the 111th Utah WomenÕs State Amateur Championship held at Davis Park Golf Course in Fruit Heights, Friday, August 4, 2017. Chugg won the championship for the fourth time.

Salt Lake City’s Kelsey Chugg is not in last place in the U.S. Women’s Open field, but she’s close to it after posting an 11-over-par 83 on Thursday at Shoal Creek, Ala.

Chugg, one of 29 amateurs and 17 first-time contestants, was a respectable 2 over through six holes, but she double-bogeyed the par-4 No. 7 and triple-bogeyed the par-4 No. 12.

Chugg then played the last six holes in 2 over.
