In a powerful celebration of art, activism, and global inclusion, Refugee Soccer and the #SheBelongs initiative will host An Evening with #SheBelongs and Pat Bagley on Wednesday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the University of Utah’s Thomas S. Monson Center.

Pulitzer-nominated editorial cartoonist Pat Bagley of The Salt Lake Tribune has donated a very special print of one of his most viral cartoons ever—honoring Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai. Malala is widely regarded as one of the most influential human rights advocates of our time, especially for girls and women around the world.
Bidding for the auction of this beautifully framed autographed work is now live at: https://givebutter.com/c/SheBelongs-Bagley-Malala/auction

We are living in uncertain and challenging times—here in the U.S. and across the globe. This moment presents an opportunity for all of us to shape the future for half the world’s population: girls and women.
Malala recently said, “I never imagined women’s rights would be lost so easily.”
As the founder of the #SheBelongs movement, I am deeply compelled to take whatever action I can to fight against the rapid erosion of these rights, the dignity, and the opportunities for girls everywhere. Everyone who joins this movement amplifies the message and accelerates momentum toward lasting change.
The power of Malala’s story and her fight for education is captured in Bagley’s historic cartoon, originally drawn just six days after she was shot on her way to school in 2012. This artwork—autographed by both Bagley and Malala herself—will be the centerpiece of a silent auction held during the evening.
The event will include light refreshments, a raffle, and a silent auction focused around the original Malala print. The program begins at 6:30 p.m., with Bagley’s presentation at 7:00 p.m., raffle results at 7:30 p.m., and the conclusion of the art auction at 7:45 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and guests are encouraged to arrive early.

This unique evening embodies the mission of the #SheBelongs movement, a program of Bridges To America, which uses soccer to promote belonging, dignity, and opportunity for girls worldwide. By gathering around a shared commitment to sport and equity, the event aims to inspire guests to become part of a larger movement—one where every girl, no matter her background, can belong, lead, and thrive.
