Here in America, the greatest nation on earth, approximately 13 million children and 44 million adults are food insecure. To put things in perspective, one in five U.S. children do not know where they will get their next meal. The simple reality is that we must all do more to fight food insecurity and feed the neediest.
As we break bread with loved ones this Christmas and come together as Utahns, let’s be mindful of those without access to food. During the holiday season, we will not have to worry about where our next meal is coming from. Sadly, far too many orphans, widows, and children have to worry about where their next meal comes from.
As the Chief Financial Officer of Parker Migliorini International, LLC (PMI Foods) based in Salt Lake City, my mission and that of my team is to feed the hungry all over the world. That is why we are proud to announce that we are donating 11,283 pounds of high-quality pork ribs to the City of Refuge in Atlanta to help feed the needy this holiday season. City of Refuge is in the middle of one of Atlanta’s most historic and struggling neighborhoods where nearly 40% of the residents live below the Federal Poverty Level. Our donation of more than 11,000 meals will help feed victims of human trafficking, homeless individuals, and families at City of Refuge.
With decades of experience operating in 19 locations across 6 continents, PMI Foods is adding new customers every day. That is why we are ideally positioned to feed the hungry and help combat food insecurity.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we partnered with Pastor Paula White to distribute turkeys to needy families in Florida. Pastor White stated publicly at the time that “God has strategically placed us in an underserved and impoverished area. Having a partnership with the amazing people of PMI Foods allowed us to provide 250 full furnished Thanksgiving meals.”
In California, we have made substantial multiple donations to help more than 67,000 people in LA County who are experiencing homelessness, many of them veterans. Partnering with the LA Mission, we provided over 25,000 meals to feed people on the front lines and help those less fortunate who are experiencing food insecurity. In the suburbs of Los Angeles, PMI Foods also supports the First Assembly of God and we just donated 3,000 meals to help feed the needy.
As part of our strategic partnership with CityServe International we feed displaced refugees and have actively supported churches aligned with CityServe throughout 2023. In Ukraine, we provided over 100,000 meals to children, women and young families who are displaced refugees. In 2024, we are planning to do more internationally and are exploring rapid response donations to natural disasters and conflict zones. In Benin, we are feeding children with high-quality life sustaining protein and working to lift children out of poverty.
Every day, PMI Foods is working to be a good corporate citizen and give back to our local community. Earlier this year, we joined the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (USRSB) as we share a commitment to environmentally sound, socially responsible, and economically viable beef. As the Chairman of USRSB stated publicly when PMI Foods joined this group, “we are working together as we strive for greater sustainability across the beef value chain.”
While our primary goal is to feed the hungry, we understand the importance of protecting our environment and have developed new environmental and social policies. We are also working to reduce emissions across all operations and have a bold vision for PMI to help tackle climate change.
When it comes to our natural environment, PMI Foods has committed to plant 1,000,000 trees over the long-term. We have partnered with One Tree Planted and are currently tens of thousands of new trees across Latin America.
As Christmas fast approaches, we cannot allow the injustice of food insecurity to go on without doing something. In 2024, PMI Foods is committed to doubling our charitable giving to reach thousands more people and change lives. This holiday season, please join with us to help feed the hungry and let’s work together to fight food insecurity.
