The Salt Lake Tribune has partnered with the PBS series FRONTLINE to investigate police shootings in Utah by expanding our one-of-a-kind database tracking each time an officer pulls the trigger.
No one else in Utah has kept a record of these shootings, much less information about who shot and why. Our efforts have uncovered racial disparities in who police shot and revealed which Utah officers have been in more than one of these shootings.
Our team also collaborated with FRONTLINE on the documentary “Shots Fired” and we continue to chronicle shootings in the state.
This in-depth journalism was possible because of a grant from FRONTLINE’s Local Journalism Initiative. That funding will runs out at the end of 2021. If you think this sort of accountability reporting is essential, consider donating to The Tribune.
