The Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City recognized lawyers, judges, first responders and the military Friday during its annal Red Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine.
During the service, which dates to the Middle Ages, the clergy wear red vestments and ask the Holy Spirit to guide all those who seek justice.
While the Red Mass is a tradition in Catholic parishes across the U.S., it didn’t start in Salt Lake City until 2007, initiated by Ronald Yengich, a Utah Catholic and well-known criminal defense attorney.
